Things are a-changin'

We are currently completing a major and exciting upgrade to the DCF web site.  This means that there is a lot of new and updated content, a new design and some useful changes in the background that mean there will be new features such as live-streaming of our Sunday morning and Tuesday evening Bible studies, the chance to watch again online, or download video via podcast.

We have had some of these changes ready since April 2011, and so we wanted to get them online as soon as possible.  Because of this there are some pages - such as this one - that are still being updated/created.  We're sorry for any inconvenience - however we are confident the changes are worth the wait.

If you cannot access a part of the web site that you really need, or have any ideas of what you would like to see - simply send an email to info@dcf-online.co.uk. We check email daily, although it may take a couple of days for a response.

For HIS glory!

Matthew

The gospel of Matthew (Levi) is written to present Jesus Christ as King of Israel, the promised Messiah. Matthew continually draws from the Old Testament to show his readers that Jesus is the fulfillment of the hope of Israel, but also He is King of the nations, the rightful heir to this world. Matthew starts by showing the ‘Jewishness’ of Jesus, being a direct descendant of Abraham and king David. J Vernon McGee gives the following breakdown:

  1. Person of the King:  Chapters 1–2

  2. Preparation of the King : Chapters 2–1:16

  3. Propaganda of the King: Chapters 4:17–9:35

  4. Program of the King: Chapters 9:36–16:20

  5. Passion of the King: Chapters 16:21–27:66

  6. Power of the King: Chapter 28

As a Roman official, Levi would have been required to use shorthand, which seems to be how he records such detailed discourses. There are three major discourses (talks) given by Jesus, vital for us to understand:

  1. The Sermon on the Mount – showing our inability to meet God’s standard

  2. The Kingdom Parables – the future of the church laid out in detail.

  3. The Olivet Discourse – things we need to understand about ‘the end times’
